How to Build Your Home Practice: Tools & Rituals to Support You

As someone who’s been teaching and practicing for years, movement is like a second language to me. But even with all that experience, building a consistent home practice was its own journey

Without the studio, the group energy, the structure. I had to find new ways to stay connected to my body and breath

Especially while traveling, creating online offerings, and holding space for others, I realized:

my home practice needs to feel like home, even away from home

Grounded. Simple. Supportive.

Not perfect. But real.

Here are some of the tools and rituals that have helped me stay anchored in practice, even when life gets full

1. Make a Corner Sacred

It doesn’t have to be fancy. A mat, a candle, maybe a few objects that feel personal; a photo, feather, crystal, or journal

Even on the road, I’ll recreate this feeling with just a towel and something meaningful nearby

2. Start With Ritual

This changed everything for me.

Lighting a candle. Taking three deep breaths. Setting an intention.

These small acts help shift me from “doing” to “being”

3. Let It Be Fluid

Some days I flow with presence

Other days, I stretch intuitively or dance to release

And yes! sometimes I just rest on the mat and breathe, and its okay

All of it is valid. All of it is practice.

4. Keep Tools Close

A yoga mat. A block or bolster. My playlist. My journal.

The less I have to go looking for things, the easier it is to drop in

5. Choose a Time Frame

I usually set a gentle container: 20, 30, or 45 minutes

No pressure. Just presence.

And if it ends up being 7 minutes? That’s totally fine, its about showing up

6. Reflect & Receive

After practice, I like to pause and ask: “What shifted?”

Sometimes I journal. Sometimes I just sit.

A sweet short moment helps me integrate

7. Celebrate the Showing Up

This one’s big. Maybe the more important even…

It’s not about how “deep” or “strong” your practice was, it’s about showing up with honesty

Your body remembers your devotion

Your home practice is yours to shape.

Let it be nourishing, honest, and flexible.

It doesn’t have to look a certain way, it just has to feel like you.

I’ve woven everything I’ve learned into my online studio (launching May 27), so you can practice from anywhere and still feel held.

Stay tuned I’ll be sharing a free checklist soon to help you build your own sacred home practice.
